Lost in space ..............
Cyber space that is! Just we I thought we had the internet problem under control it went out again. So I once again picked up the phone and this time conceded to having a tech come check it out. Right after I hung up, yep you guessed it, it came back on. I had pretty much already determined that the problem was with our modem and the tech confirmed it. He replaced it and all seems well now with an added bonus of no charge to us for the tech as it was equipment failure. Now if they had just listened to me in the first place this whole fiasco could have been solved immediately. When will they ever learn that even us ordinary people have brains.......geez.
And of course we had another storm breeze through night before last (only a little thunder, but really strong winds), it broke some trees in the neighborhood. Fall is coming quicker that I like considering we have had no summer at all. Hopefully will will be nice and long and we'll have great weather for the next couple of months.
Getting excited about my Vegas trip in a couple of weeks. My niece gets home from Kentucky on Sunday so she can have some quality time with her mom before I whisk her away again. This is going to be an awesome trip as the 4 of us click so well together.
I've been really watching my food and just out of curiosity I stepped on the scale this morning and was down from Monday's weigh in. Keep your fingers crossed that I have a good weekend, short term goal is to be at 270 on Monday morning.

I could just scream ...........
I have had no internet for two days now and I just want to scream. I had major words with our carrier last night and all I heard is "it must be something inside the wiring of your house". I could have strangled him, but I agreed to let them have a service tech come and see if he could find the problem, but he can't come till tomorrow afternoon. By now I'm spitting nails and my blood pressure is about ready to cause me to have heart failure. But of course I am at their mercy.
I came home from work today not to be daunted by a lack of internet. Had hubby do a couple of things that might be the problem if it is our wiring, no luck. Cleaned off my desk so that the tech could get to the wiring and decided to reboot and try one last time. Voila, I had internet, how comvenient for them. So I called to cancel the tech and they said "we'll have him drop by anyway just to check". My question was "and who's paying for this", response "well you are of course". Needless to say, my cork blew and I had some very choice words in relation to what they could do with that idea and if the tech shows up and I get billed for it there will be hell to pay.
Now I have vented I feel better. Crap, I hate it when these things happen. And of course because I wasn't able to blog I got into all sorts of food items that I normally wouldn't. So now I am back on line, tomorrow begins a new day.

Wow Monday comes way, way to fast. I realized this morning that I had forgot to post my weight last week and I can't find the picture, think hubby's been playing with the camera again. So anyway, here is today's weigh in and it's looking good.

Lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer ...almost gone
The leaves have started to turn to fall colors and the nights are getting cooler, before long summer will be over and fall arriving. Fall is my favorite time of year, I love the coolness and colors that go with it. We haven't had much of a summer, lots of rain and cool temps.
Got to see my adorable new granddaughter yesterday and had lots of cuddles. See picture over there >>>>. She's absolutely adorable, of course I could never say anything else about her.
Having a lazy day today, doing a bit of cleaning and baked some blueberry bran muffins (I have a need for some extra fibre). Just letting my mind wonder where ever it likes, remembering the past, enjoying the present and wondering about the future. I love days like this, it's like being frozen in time with no worries or cares.
Breakfast
1 hazelnut macichinno (60)
1 homemade bran muffin (175)
4 oz yogurt (35)
8 oz watermelon (60)
Lunch
1 Stouffer's Philly Steak; Cheese Crustini (310)
Snack
2 homemade bran muffins (350)
16 oz watermelon (120)
Dinner
3 oz pork chop (165)
6 perogies w/1 tblspoon sour cream & 1 tablespoon bacon bits (370)
8 brussel sprouts in butter sauce (100)
I know I have over eaten today but really needed to get things moving. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do!

Cravings ........
Do you ever get that "I just have to have ______________ or I'm going to die" feeling. Where no sensible thought in the world can convince you otherwise? That seems to have been my life the past couple of days. Now I know when these ugly cravings raise their head it can be a total disaster for my eating program.
We don't keep bread in the house because it is a terrible trigger. Even the healthy kind can be a devil in disguise. Hubby can make a sandwich out of anything and give me a loaf of fresh bread and butter and it is gone in one sitting. Yesterday when I got home from work I was craving bread, I wanted a big old deli sandwich filled with all the right things. Friday night is frozen pizza night in our house, it's the end of the work week and time for winding down before the weekend. So I made the pizza and we had dinner and afterwards mentioned to hubby about the craving. He asked me if the pizza had satisfied that craving so I stopped and thought about it for a minute and low and behold the craving was gone. So I now ask the question, did I really have a craving or was I just hungry.
This morning I woke up and thought well it's Saturday maybe we should go out for breakfast. I was again craving ham, eggs, hasbrowns and of course toast. But before I run this by hubby I wanted to get my shopping out of the road before the stores became crowded. So I headed off to Wal-Mart to get some little things for the new baby and I knew we needed some fresh fruit.
If you have been reading my posts lately you have probably noticed a pattern of eating that involves frozen entrees. A while back I had posted about how being on Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem is a very expensive form of dieting. Well I have been experimenting with some forzen entrees and have found one particular brand that is really tasty and has a great variety. I sat down with hubby one evening and we discussed what our biggest problem with food is and discovered for both of us that it is portion control. If I cook we eat way, way too much, gourging till we are sick. I even tried cooking just enough for two - good luck with that one, if you have ever tried it you know that there is no such thing, there's always too much of something. So for the past couple of weeks our lunch and dinner have comprised of fruits, veggies and frozen entrees.
So I got off topic there for a minute, anyway, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up some fresh fruit and see if there were any frozen entrees on sale. As I was looking I came across Aunte Jemima Scrambles, roasted potatoes, ham, eggs, cheese, peppers and onions. I checked the calorie content and one package is 260, I bought two different types as a trial run. Got home and heated one up and guess what, craving was once again gone.
So what really are cravings, in my world I always thought of them as a deep need to have something, now I think it just means I am hungry because I'm hungry. If I had given in this morning and gone for breakfast I can guarantee I would have been looking at 1000+ calories (cuz we always go for buffet and that means lots of breakfast, lunch and dessert items). So I managed to get all the things I was craving, minus the toast, and still stay within a reasonable amount of calories. So from now on when I get what I consider a craving, I'm going to look hard for a substitute and ensure that I am only eating because I am hungry.
Anyway back to my shopping story from this morning, I actually had to make two different stops at grocery stores. One has nicer produce and the other had our frozen entrees on sale for 5 for $10.00. Now that works out to $2.00 a meal as compared to $4+ for Jenny Craig and NutriSystem and they definitely taste better and seem to be quite satisfying. I am still making the occasional meal as we do not want to get tired of the routine or we will fail. I also had a craving for iced tea and have been watching the ad on TV for Tetley Iced Tea Infusions, a word of caution, they are loaded in sugar. 50 calories in 1/2 sachet so that is 100 calories for a 2 cup serving, not necessarily outragous but really have to watch how many a person has in a day. So on days when I want iced tea I will give up my latte's.
Breakfast
1 pkg Aunt Jemima Scrambles (260)
Lunch
1 pkg Lean Cusine Glazed Chicken (190)
1 bottle of Iced Tea (100)
Dinner
1 pkg Stouffer's Meat Lasagna (320) - oh my this was the best lasagna
1 cup steamed green beans (100)
1 cup raw veggies (50)
1 cup diet jello (10)

It's a girl ...........
Sorry, missed posting last night as we had another one of those horrid storms go through. Thunder, lightning and lots of hail, it's been a horrid summer.
My newest grandbaby was born at 9:30 this morning, a beautiful baby girl, 6 lbs 13 oz and her name is Alex. I can't wait till tomorrow when she gets home and I can go cuddle her.
Been doing ok with the food. The Biggest Loser is a really hard game to keep up with so have to do a nit more practicing on how to enter things. I really messed it up and entered like 13000 calories for one day and couldn't figure out how to erase them.
Breakfast
1 pkg instant oatmeal w/2 oz milk (150)
4 oz yogurt (35)
1 cup grapfruit (100)
1 latte (100)

Lunch
1 cup raw peppers/cucumbers (50)
1 Chicken Terriyaki Bowl (270)

Another storm or was it just my black mood ......
We had another thunder storm roll through last night and this time it came in the middle of the night. The thunder was really intense with lots of hial. I got up and looked out side at the sky and the clouds were rolling. The thunder just kept booming and just when we thought it was moving on the storm circled around and came in for another round.
Things are better today we managed to avert a major financial disaster so now just have to be really careful with finances and we should be able to weather the storm (talk about a play on words). I canceled my weekend in Banff so there are some savings there, couldn't cancel Vegas as everything is already paid for so I had better really have a good time.
Utilities are all caught up and we should be able to hold our heads above water for the next few months if we are really careful. I bought some lettuce at the store the other day and for the first time in my life I am going to have hubby return it. It stinks and has turned all yucky in the bad. Tired of paying good money after bad for unedible produce. They can stand behind thier money back if not satisfied guarantee.
Sorry, had to leave in the middle of the post as hubby wanted his dinner. Food has been ok for the past couple of days, but no screaming hell. Seems like I start out good and end up bad. Tomorrow is another day and a fresh start.

Is life really worth the hassle ...........
It's amazing how life goes from one day to the next and things just change rapidly. Up till now our life has been pretty even keeled. We live comfortably, don't spend excessively and work hard for what we have. And all of a sudden we find ourselves on a down hill slide. Had to take my inheritance check from my Uncle and make our mortgage payment today. Our rental units usually pay for themselves (we do not make any money on them, but they are a good investment, or so I thought). We have one empty unit and now I find myself having to put our own money into them to keep them afloat. Utilities both on our house and the rentals are due and there is no cash to pay them. We thought of selling but the economy is so bad right now we'd lose our shirts if we sold. So as of today we join the millions of others in the world that have to stuggle to make ends meet.
Went to the grocery store and could not believe the price of fresh produce and every thing else. Can see where I am going to have to get inventive and use up what is in the cupboards before buying anything else. And of course with this comes my feelings of inadequacy because I'm powerless to do anything about it right now. I really have to work at this or I will lose what little I have gained (or gain what little I have lost).
I did set up the Biggest Loser on my Wii last night. It is an interesting program so will see how it goes. Have been wearing the pedometer from the DS program I bought all day. I actually got them both at the used games store yesterday so they were a reasonable price.
Breakfast
2 pieces french toast w/small amount of margarine & diet syrup
1 latte
Lunch
salad w/dressing
Stoffer's Fried Chicken dinner (230)
Snack
iced coffee
2 slices french toast w/margarine & diet syrup
1 banana
1 snack bar
Dinner
toasted fried egg sandwich w/cheese & fresh tomatoes

Wow, wow, wow .............
It's been a couple of packed days so let's get some of it out of the road. First what I have been eating:
Friday
Breakfast
4 oz yogurt
1 cup grapefruit
Lunch
1 pkg Uncle Ben's Sweet & Sour Rice (380) - a little high so have to be careful with these, but they are good
1/2 cup applesauce
Snack
1 snack bar (100)
Dinner
Went out to an East Indian restaurant with some of the girls from work. We shared a lot of different things so I just had a taste of each, not sure of the calorie count but here goes:
1 piece chicken, lamb, shrimp and vegetables from an appetitzer plate
1.5 pieces of cottage cheese patty fried
2 pieces veggie balls
1/2 cup beef briyana w/mango chutnet
1/2 piece nan bread
I passed on the dessert, it didn't look all that appetizing.
As I said not sure about the calories but tried to take small portions.
Today
Breakfast
1 cup grapefruit
1 latte
Lunch
Taco Time Beef Taco Salad w/Ranch dressing (can you believe that 1 pkg of the dressing is 200 calories and they give you 2, I only used a little bit of it once I read that)
diet pop
Dinner
1/4 frozen pineapple and ham pizza
1 ice coffee
I came home last night determined to get hubby's computer back up and running. He had gotten a virus from somewhere and we shut it down about 3 months ago. I finally decided either I get it fixed or off to the junk yard it goes. So after about 3 hours it was totally clean, the printer was working again (it had quit as well) and hubby is back in his own corner. I have one more that I want to try to clean up as it has all my geneology on it so will give that a whirl sometime soon.
My brother got engaged yesterday. He lost his wife to cancer almost 2 years ago and has been seeing this lovely lady. So he popped the question and she said yes. His wife was 15 years older than him so it will be nice for him to have someone closer to his own age and sharing his interests.
Got news that my son is going to be taking a job about 4 hours from us. It makes me sad but it is a promotion for him so that is good. It's with the same company he works for now. It means I won't get to see them as often but so is life.
Hubby and I went to the mall this afternoon as I needed ink cartridges for the printers. While we were these we met up with our grandson so we had a nice visit with him. He had just gotten in from a camp job and was killing time till his girlfriend got of work. He has matured so much in the past couple of years and I am really proud of him.
While at the mall I made an investment in the Wii Biggest Loser game. I have been a little bored with the Wii Fit so decided I'd try this. Also, got a fitness program for my DS. It has a step counter that you wear and at the end of each day you plug it into the game and it gives all kind of information. So I should lose weight like crazy now with all these new gadgets.
Thanks Tina and Skippy for the awards. I'm afraid I'm not sure what they are all about and I don't really think my blog is so awesome. It's just about me and pretty boring at times. Thank you though that was very kind and thoughtful of you. Skippy you are right, you , me and Tina are like the 3 Muskateers!!!!! Look at us go! Hugs to you both!
Friday
Breakfast

Ponderings of an old woman ............
If the world were flat could I walk to the edge and fall off? If this were 2012 would the world come to an end? If I stopped stuffing my face would I lose weight?
All questions that go through my mind on a daily basis ........well the first two not so much, I just threw them in to throw you off track. Of course, the answer to the 3rd one is more than obvious so why can't I just do it? Oops, that's question #4.
My world revolves around food, no matter how hard I try not to think about it, it occupies my mind every waking moment of the day. I start off really good with a decent breakfast, lunch is usually pretty reasonable but then comes dinner and I lose total control. Thinking maybe I should go get my teeth wired together so that nothing can go in my mouth that can't fit through a straw. Probably not such a good idea........hmmmm, gonna think on this for a bit. Any suggestions would be certainly appreciated.
Well my girlfriend of 20 years stood me up tonight, and for some reason I knew she would. We were supposed to go to the show and have a catch up evening as she has just moved here and we've been living in different cities since 1996. How did I know? Well she has an extremely jealous and untrusting husband who probably thought she was sneaking off to meet some guy even though I had spoke to her in WalMart on Sunday and we discussed the movie right in front of him. I really have no use for him but I tolerate him because she is my friend and I love her dearly.
It seems as if summer is slowly turning into fall as I see some of the tree leaves are turning color. We haven't even had much of a summer and now it's leaving. I'm going to hurry and finish this post as the clouds are building and they have storm warnings again for this evening.

I'm in a rut..........
Ok, I found the camera and decided to update this post before I move on to the next. By the looks of it I should have made sure the camera stayed lost. Yikes, what is going on with me......wait a minute, I know...it's called relatives. Every time they show up for a visit I have to cook for them and then I over eat. Even if I don't cook........by way of buffet........I over eat. Crap, any chance I can get them all to stay at their homes for the next 6 months. Not likely, but I can wish.

Busy, busy weekend....
OMG where did the weekend go, had so much company and accomplished absolutely nothing, not even the laundry. My sis and her family were here Saturday during the day and of course there isn't much to eat in my house so off we went to the buffet ........absolutely a huge mistake. Then they went shopping and I decided to run to the store so I could somethings and make dinner. Turns out that they decided to head home as there was a storm coming and they had sheetrock in the back of the truck. So there I am stuck with all this extra food, I tried not to over eat but I think I did not succeed.
Our future DIL also arrived on Saturday and spent the night with us. I love having her come and spend time with us. We went out and did some shopping today and I have tried really hard not to overeat. The scale will tell tomorrow.
I still have some book work to do for my TOPS meeting tomorrow night so this is going to be short and sweet. Just checking in.

Post names..........
Do you ever have trouble trying to decide what to use for a title for your blog posting? I find it really hard cuz I want to make it something catchy so that people will want to read it. As you can see today's is pretty humdrum..lol.
Was missing in action for a couple of days due to a major migraine and of course more nasty weather. Looks like we are not going to get any summer this year. There has not been a period of more than 2 days in a row without rain. I guess I shouldn't complain as some places are experiencing wild fires due to drought conditions.....look at Russia....it is devastating. But human nature is to complain about something regarding the weather.
Not much happening here, I had an awesome week at work and accomplished a lot so that always makes me feel good at the end of it.
I've been keeping on track with my food and doing lots on my Wii, in fact so much that I had to take a break last nicuz every muscle in my body hurt, especially my arms from all the bowling I was doing.
Hubby has a sister that is an alcholic and having some health issues. She needs a hysterectomy and is trying to convince the family that she is dying. His dad wants to go see here (it is a 14 hour drive) cuz he has been having some health issues and figures that his time is limited. And then his other sister is getting invloved. So last night I had to sit down with him and explain the inner working of the female organs and explain to him that if it was to the point where it was an emergency they would have done the surgery already. She is not even booked yet but apparently the doctor has said in the next 5 - 6 weeks. She is such a drama queen and his dad and sister buy into it. After I was done explaining he thanked me and then got on the phone and asked them both if they were either drunk or just plain stupid and he was not driving that far just to have her slam a door in thier face. She has not been very nice to anyone in his family for the past few years and she particularly does not like hubby because he tells her the truth about her drinking.
My sister and her hubby are coming into town today so that will be nice. They have to get some more flooring for a rental unit as it was flooded during some heavy rains a couple of weeks ago.

Exciting news ............
I received an e-mail at work today saying I was the successful candidate for a Financial Steering Committee that is being formed by my department. I had put my name forward but never thought I would be successful due to not having the qualifications required. It truly is a feather in my cap to be appointed to this committee. Also, hubby is working on some things that may make our life just a little easier, so all is good today.

Crap, I have to start all over with today's post .....
I had today's post all nicely typed and my computer hicupped and poof there it went. Horrible thing is it was a really good post and now I can't remember half of it. Grrrr........ hey, I went back in and the program actually saved a draft........wow
Looks like we are in for more stormy weather, it is cool, cloudy and attempting to rain. Took hubby to the medical clinic this morning, he's been having some stomach distress for the past few days. Doc figures it is a flu but that he now has an intestinal infection (like my sister had, wonder if they maybe ate something the rest of us didn't), so put him on antifbiotics for a few days to see if that helps. I also got my meds straightened out as the last time they messed up on some dosages that had to be changed.
Stopped at the store to get prescriptions filled and picked up some fresh fruit and veggies. I am now addicted to the produce isle....lol. They also had frozen vegetables on sale so I picked up some of them and some snack bars (100 calories or less). I am going to do this, come hell or high water!
Breakfast
1 slice toast w/1 teaspoon margarine (125)
4 oz yogurt (35)
8 oz grapefruit sections w/juice (100)

1/2 cup green beans (50)
1/3 english cucmber (25)

Weigh in day ......
Well that looks pretty good, 4.8 pounds in a week. Makes me happy and just goes to show that I can do this when I put my mind to. Today I am going to start using my Wii again a little everyday to try and start toning some. I am not a big fan of exercise but know it is important to the overall weight lose program and good health.
Breakfast
1 egg (80)
1 slice dry white toast (90)
1/2 cup sauted mushrooms (50)
1 large black plum (40)
1 latte (100)
Lunch
1 pkg SmartOnes Ravioli Florentine (250)
(this was not a good tasting dish...way too much sauce...)
1 cup raw veggies w/1 tablespoon calorie wise dressing (65)
1 pkg Thinsations Chocolate covered pretzels (100)
Dinner
1 pkg Michelina Indian Butter Chicken (350)
1/2 raw red pepper 7 1/2 english cucmber (50)
1 slice white toast w/margarine (110)
1 fat free ice cream bar (90)
Total Calories: 1375
I learnt a valuable lesson today: invetigate before making a bad decision. We had to run to the bank this afternoon and since it was so hot I thought we might stop and get a Dairy Queen cone on the way home (soft ice cream is my ultimate favorite). So I looked up the nutrition guide on line and wow .... 230 calories for a small cone. Needless to say I came home and had one of my fat free ice cream bars for 90. It certainly pays to look up calorie content before making a decision that can ruin the whole day. I am a little over the 1200 calories for today but still below the 1500 that is the max I am allowing myself. Could not get in a walk today due to air quality and mosquitoes the size of baseballs. So I am off to do a bit on the Wii so that I get in my exercise. Hope you all have a pleasant evening!!!
